Prestige and Medals

Prestige is Ultimate Mining Tycoon’s endgame reset loop. Trade accumulated cash and most progress for Medals — permanent currency spent on upgrades and exclusive machines at Rolijok’s Prestige Store. Done correctly, your second run reaches $20M faster than your first. Done poorly, you reset too early with one Medal and grind surface Tin again.

Formerly called “Rebirth” with “Souls,” prestige was renamed in v0.5.0 without changing mechanics. This guide reflects v0.5.13.

When can you prestige?

Minimum cash: $20.0M. At that threshold you earn 1 Medal on reset.

Critical tip: Cash above the threshold can yield multiple Medals in one prestige if you save enough before resetting. The cost to prestige doubles per Medal tier — planning matters.

Recommended first prestige: Save $80M before resetting to earn 3 Medals. Spend all three on the Ore Upgrader prestige machine — it transmutes any ore one tier higher, bypassing depth requirements for lower-tier mining.

Use the Prestige Calculator to preview Medal counts at your current balance.

First prestige shopping list: Ore Upgrader

Ore Upgrader — 3 Medals

The most important prestige machine. Feeds any ore and outputs the next tier up. Tin becomes Copper-tier value without mining Copper depth. This single machine reshapes Factory Layout and Early Game Money routes.

Do not split first 3 Medals across minor stat upgrades unless you fully understand the opportunity cost.

Prestige store upgrades (Rolijok)

Percentage boosts stack permanently across all future prestiges:

UpgradeBonus per levelPriority
Pickaxe Strength+10%High — faster depth access
Pickaxe Speed+10%High — more ore per minute
Vehicle Power+15% top speed/accelHigh after Super Crawler
Walk Speed+10%Medium — quality of life

All upgrades start at 1 Medal per level and scale. See full rankings in Prestige Upgrades Tier List.

Step-by-step first prestige plan

  1. $0 – $500K — Follow Getting Started and early money guide.
  2. $500K – $5M — Build Power Core precursor chain; optimize Vehicle Logistics.
  3. $5M – $20M — Do not prestige yet. Expand sell capacity.
  4. $20M – $80M — Bank cash. Resist pickaxe vanity buys. Ore Upgrader needs 3 Medals.
  5. Prestige at $80M — Buy Ore Upgrader immediately.
  6. Second run — Rebuild straight factory; feed Upgrader; reach $20M in fraction of first-run time.

Common prestige mistakes

MistakeConsequence
Prestige at exactly $20MOnly 1 Medal; Ore Upgrader delayed
Buy Walk Speed before Ore UpgraderFaster walking, same slow economy
Forget rebuild costNo cash for Iron pickaxe after reset
Prestige before unloader upgradeSame bottlenecks second run
Ignore ores in vehicle on resetLost haul — empty vehicle before prestiging

Second prestige and beyond

Each prestige tier costs double the previous Medal threshold. Invest early Medals into Pickaxe Strength/Speed and Vehicle Power so mining and hauling keep pace with factory ambition.

Endgame pickaxe Unobtainium ($25M) and vehicle Exa-Drill ($8M) become realistic with stacked prestige bonuses.

Multiplayer prestige notes

Prestige is individual. Friends on your server do not reset when you do. Coordinate if you share mining layers — your reset does not affect their plots.

Patch history relevant to prestige

  • v0.5.0 — Drill vehicles + prestige rebrand from Rebirth/Souls
  • v0.5.7 — Vehicle physics react to prestige Vehicle Power upgrades; Exa-Drill exit clipping fixed
  • v0.5.x — Fixed ores persisting after prestige (verify your inventory is clean)

Prestige is not punishment — it is how Ultimate Mining Tycoon opens Unobtainium-tier wealth. Save $80M, buy the Ore Upgrader, and never look back at surface Tin the same way.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

When should I prestige for the first time?

Wait until you can earn 3 Medals (~$80M cash) before your first prestige. Spend all three on the Ore Upgrader for maximum long-term gain.

What is the Ore Upgrader?

A prestige-exclusive machine costing 3 Medals. It transmutes any ore one tier higher, dramatically boosting value without mining deeper layers.

Do I lose Medals when I prestige again?

No. Medals you earned persist. You spend Medals on upgrades and machines, then earn more on subsequent prestiges.

What happens to my factory when I prestige?

Standard machines and cash reset. Prestige machines and store upgrades you purchased remain.

How much cash do I need for 1 Medal?

Minimum $20M for your first Medal. Saving more before resetting can yield multiple Medals in one prestige.

Which prestige upgrade should I buy after Ore Upgrader?

Pickaxe Strength and Pickaxe Speed offer the best return for mining throughput. Vehicle Power helps once you run Super Crawler or drill vehicles.
